Tales of Uncle Remus

I finished the book! I think any southern has heard tales of Brer Rabbit all their lives, I can remember my brother telling me the story of Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby. I read it to my son.

I will say that after reading all these tales I don't blame all the animals for wanting to skin him., and boil him, and everything else. So I enjoyed when the turtle outsmarted him in the race.

Walking across AEgypt

I just finished "Walking across Egypt" Why are most of the southern writers we are reading from North Carolina?

1) I think religion was treated postitively, her church and the people in it seemed like most churches.

2) It needed to be a bit longer so somethings could have been cleared up, like did her children commit her when they found out she was taking Wesley in.

3) She reminded me of my Great Aunt Jane who cooked like Mattie, and my Mom who liked her stories on TV.

4) I wonder if she put so much into her church because her husband was when he was alive was gone alot and also because she does not have grandchildren.

5) This is her way of combatting lonliness.

6) One word "Strange"

7) I think she was joking to get a reaction from her kids, I hope it was the one she wanted.

8) I think teens could read this, I hope they would appreciate the humor.

9) On big issue is hardly anyone cooks like that anymore we are becoming and I believe will continue to be a fast food nation. Also people of Mattie's generation felt they had to marry and have children, women today do not have that need.

I liked this book it was funny and was a fast read.
